Today, Nebraska’s Senator Ben Nelson made the following comment on President Obama’s proposed Fiscal Year 2012 budget, which was released this morning:
“The President’s 2012 budget starts the debate about getting spending under control in Washington. The budget lays out cuts the administration says will reduce the deficit by $1 trillion over the next 10 years but unfortunately the biggest reductions arrive in the later years,” said Senator Nelson.
“I’ll be working with other members of the Appropriations Committee to enact spending cuts that kick in sooner when Congress considers the next Continuing Resolution and then in the 2012 budget.
“Congress must pursue both short-term and long-term efforts to reduce spending and the national debt. If we don’t take the hard steps now to enact these needed cutbacks, it’s difficult to imagine we’ll be further along on the road 10 years from now.
“Nebraskans want Washington to spend less and do more to bring down the $14 trillion national debt as soon as possible because they know that this tough medicine will help keep America competitive in the global economy of the future. I intend to work with my colleagues to promote those objectives, and to make sure that we also promote job growth, economic development and energy security.”
