NELSON NOMINATES BRIDGEPORT, NEBRASKA
FAMILY FOR “ANGELS IN ADOPTION” AWARD

September 4, 2009 – Nebraska’s Senator Ben Nelson announced today that he has nominated Sara and Junior Heredia of Bridgeport, Nebraska for the national “Angels in Adoption” award in recognition of their work on behalf of foster children.

The Heredias have opened there home to five foster children, four of whom are siblings. The two older siblings were adopted this summer and they plan on adopting the younger two this fall.

Sara was a para educator for one of the foster children during pre-school. Three of the four foster children are high needs, one child has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. The youngest has attachment and behavior concerns and the second youngest has a physical disability.

Sara maintains several services for these children such as occupational, speech, physical, individual and behavioral therapy, medical appointments, pulmonologist appointments and Children’s Medically Handicapped Program.

“These children have shown remarkable progress since coming to live with Sara and Junior who are to be commended for their loving care,” said Senator Nelson, an adoptive parent himself. “They have earned our respect and admiration for opening their home and hearts to children in need of a loving family. They are a prime example of the hardworking, compassionate families nationwide that selflessly provide the care and support children need every day.”

The “Angels in Adoption” program is sponsored by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute which works to raise awareness about the thousands of foster children in this country and the millions of children around the world who are in need of permanent homes.
