OMAHA, Neb. — U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson says he’s taking steps to try to head off further delays in road construction involving federal stimulus money.
State officials recently revealed that millions of dollars worth of road projects tied to stimulus money have been delayed until next year. Gov. Dave Heineman last month blamed red tape at the federal level, in part.
The Nebraska Democrat said Wednesday that he has met with newly installed Federal Highway Administrator Victor Mendez and other agency officials regarding the issue.
Nelson says Mendez noted the agency has begun holding workshops for local officials to help.
