(AP) — OMAHA, Neb. - Researchers and programs at Creighton University and the University of Nebraska Medical Center will be dividing more than $1.5 million from the federal stimulus program.
The office of Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., says the National Institutes of Health grants will provide research opportunities "for students who would otherwise not have been able to secure funding."
Creighton University is getting nearly $923,000 for three projects. They relate to hearing loss, immune system deficiency and lymphoid cancer.
The University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha is getting nearly $469,000 for research into treatments for a type of heart disease. And it will get nearly $108,000 to study a type of strep that can cause cavities and other problems.
