Economic StimulusRecovery for Nebraskans

We are fortunate to live in Nebraska, which hasn't felt the worst of the far-reaching economic crisis confronting our nation. But the worst national economic downturn in decades is having a sizable impact on Nebraska jobs, communities and businesses.

That's why I worked with Senator Susan Collins and a bipartisan group of senators to cut more than $100 billion from the economic recovery bill to focus it more on saving and creating jobs, and providing tax cuts for families. The Nelson-Collins alternative helped pave the way for Senate passage and for President Obama to sign into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 on February 17, 2009.

The economic recovery bill aims to create good-paying jobs; protect jeopardized jobs; make long-lasting investments in education and energy; cut taxes for working families and help vulnerable Americans. The plan also provides transparency and accountability to ensure taxpayer money is used responsibly.

I am posting information here as it becomes available about federal funds Nebraska receives under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to help inform Nebraskans about potential help available to them and to promote transparency and accountability for taxpayers.
